On Monday night Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood got taken over for the world premiere of “Street Dreams”, Rob Dyrdek’s highly anticipated skate film. Written, produced and financed by Dyrdek, the movie depicts the realities of life as a skateboarder, and stars Dyrdek, Paul Rodriquez, Ryan Sheckler, Terry Kennedy and Ryan Dunn.
It was a full red carpet scene—Ken Block rolled up from SD along with members of the DC team; celebs like Nicky Hilton and Michael Rappaport showed up to support; media like E!, FUEL TV, and photogs-galore lined the carpet; and tourists flooded both sides of the street to see what a real Hollywood premiere was all about.
Once the red carpet madness wrapped, everyone headed inside the theater for the show. Dyrdek, Director Chris Zamoscianyk, and the cast introduced the film to the crowd, with Dyrdek saying, “It’s a movie about skateboarders that had to be made. If we didn’t make it, who would?”
The result of their efforts? A very true depiction of street skateboarding and the always hard to depict culture that surrounds it. With a great story of Derrick Cabrera and his quest to become a sponsored skater as the movie’s backbone, Dyrdek mixed in solid skateboarding and purposefully left out the cheesy, hokey, corny stuff that ruins most movies about our culture. Dyrdek made a great movie… did you expect anything less from him?
