Last weekend, thanks to the support of The Skateboard Mag, DC, and a bunch of awesome ASR Trade Expo attendees, Grind for Life experienced a great weekend in San Diego. Nearly $9,000 was raised through the High Ollie Challenge and the Framed Photo Silent Auction, all in support of G.F.L. and its efforts that help people with cancer.
The GFL Chill Zone was up and running throughout ASR, and it was most packed during Friday afternoon's High Ollie Challenge. People bid silently on 30 beautiful pieces of skate photography from J.Grant Brittain, Dave Swift, Mike Blabac, Atiba Jefferson, Anthony Acosta, Matt Price and Ray Zimmerman (MRZ). They checked out mini-booths set up by Grind For Life supporters. They drank free beer. They listened to the DJ. They got their pictures snapped in the photo booth. And they watched the battle outside on the deck for the highest ollie... the bar went up up up until it reached 40", a height cleared only by Aldrin Garcia. For his efforts, DC hooked up $1,500 in cash money... not a bad take for an afternoon of jumping.
A huge thanks to everyone who helped make the Grind for Life festivities all weekend highly successful once again. Our friends at TransWorld SKATEboarding posted a pretty sweet little video on their site... go here to watch the High Ollie Challenge highlights.
