Last Saturday Danny Way and members of the DC and Plan B team kicked off Danny’s celebration of his 20th year as a pro skateboarder at Pacific Drive in San Diego. Taking over Thomas Street in front of PD, he was joined by Colin McKay, Ryan Smith, PJ Ladd, Lindsey Robertson, and DC Co-Founder Ken Block for a mellow demo and signing to give props to Danny’s amazing career so far in skateboarding.
Pacific Drive plays an important roll in Danny’s history. DC Co-Founder Damon Way skated for Alexander’s (the predecessor to Pacific Drive) in the days of the Vista Skate Locals. Later, Danny skated for PD throughout the ‘90s, along with pretty much every San Diego pro at the time, including Dyrdek and Kalis.
Today the shop remains one of San Diego’s most legit skate shops, serving as a place to hang out, score the best skate shoes and hardgoods, and mill around on Thomas Street out front.
Matter of fact, PD was one of the first shops to support DC. Owner Jim bought into Danny’s first signature shoe, DC’s first product, without even seeing a sample. The Pacific Drive crew has always been huge supporter of Danny and DC.
That’s why when DC re-released the Danny 1’s in Spring 2008, we made a special version for the shop with Pacific Drive logos on the tongue. We even gave away a pair last weekend at the PD / Danny Way street party…. They’re pictured above.
Stay tuned because DC has much more coming your way to celebrate Danny’s 20th year a pro skateboarder, hitting you all through November.
